Where can I get a bar like that?
The cocktail hour at our wedding venue in Harrisonburg can be as unique as you want. You can start with our elegant elephant themed bar. The bar we purchased for the wedding venue is an absolutely great find! The bar is a classic old-style with the foot rest supported by three copper elephants trunks. This really is a tasteful piece of furniture even if it sounds a little different. Once you see the bar you will understand why we think it is such a great addition-sophisticated and slightly quirky. Soon after we got this interesting piece of furniture, a father of the groom wanted to know where we found it as he might consider getting one like it.
Options abound with Elephant Bar!
The bar can be moved to the back patio where many brides decide to have their cocktail hour. The cocktail hour allows guests whether they be family, old friends or new friends a chance to visit. This time of cocktails is great for lively banter while the wedding party is finishing up with the traditional wedding pictures on the lawn nearby. Some couples will choose to have a single signature drink for their wedding or a special drink in honor of the bride and one for the groom as well. These signature drinks may match a theme for the reception or may reflect the personality or personal tastes of the couple. Drinks are up to the couple’s imagination whether they are a current small batch American whiskey, a scotch, flavored vodka or something containing fruit and an umbrella. Some couples will have multiple locations for beverages with alcohol or mixed drinks served at this traditional bar, a keg or wine at another station with water, lemonade, tea or soft drinks at a nearby table.
Memories shared and created at wedding reception
Guests can make a drink selection and then stroll out on the lawn to watch or participate in a corn hole match. Conversations once begun around lawn games continue as everyone moves about joining friends and family they haven’t seen as recently as they wished. The great news is the visiting and fun will continue as the party continues under the tent for the meal. It’s really turned out to be a wonderful celebration with the newlyweds at our wedding at The Columns wedding venue!

The Columns at Six Penny Farm now has a larger tent for our wedding venue. We now have a 40 foot by 100 foot white wedding tent. This is exciting news as this provides our couples with so many options. The tent can now accommodate up to 250 guests at round tables while allowing for room for food service, dance floor and DJ or band. This amount of space should nicely accommodate most of our weddings. As usual if a client has a need for a larger tent, then they may rent a larger tent. We would need to approve and advise as to when and where an additional tent may be placed. Additional tents and their cost are the responsibility of the client. We also have sides for the tent with cathedral windows. This will allow for additional comfort for our guests if it should rain on the day of the event. The sides may also allow for heating or cooling if the client desires.
Most couples look forward to those wonderful clear evenings so they can enjoy all the stars in the sky this far out in the country. A clear, night sky at The Columns at Six Penny Farm always impresses. Open tent sides allows for guests to venture out from under the tent when they wish. It can provide a nice touch to an already wonderful day.
For smaller weddings, this size tent may allow for ceremony seating and reception seating to be set up under the tent all at once as this might be needed in case of rain.
This tent now gives all sorts of possibilities for the client. The bride may choose to decorate with accent colors as well around the tent and on tables. All decorations need to be approved by our staff to avoid obviously dangerous choices and to prevent damage to the tent and equipment of The Columns at Six Penny Farm. We look forward to seeing how our couples take advantage of all of this great space under the tent at our wedding venue.
The farm is a 160-acre beef and hay farm located in McGaheysville, Virginia which is in Rockingham County a leading agricultural county for the state. Farms in the area yield a variety of products most typically poultry, beef, corn, and soybeans in addition to a wide variety of vegetables typically for the farms own family’s use.
For the locavore in you, Six Penny Farm produces food to use right on site.
Six penny farm raises a variety of products. We have traditionally raised Angus beef cattle, hay for our cattle as well as for some local stables and horse owners. We also have raspberries, chickens for meat and eggs. In addition we have fresh herbs, and a variety of vegetables have been grown as well. We have also started keeping some honeybees. The honeybee effort will produce some honey for consumption, but is also an effort to be a good steward of our farm and the land around us. Bees are so important for pollenating all kinds of crops.
Bring in the abundance of the Shenandoah Valley with local food sourcing.
You may want to have your caterer source much of what is used for your wedding locally. There is such an abundance grown locally that can be used for your receptions. Check with your caterer ahead of time to see if they have options that allow you to take advantage of locally produced foods. While there may be a lot of food that can be found locally, some of the food may not be in season when you are celebrating. Just ask ahead with your caterer to find what options they are aware of. We have berries, herbs, eggs, chicken and may have other ingredients that we may incorporate for our overnight guests and may also be available for wedding receptions with advance notice. The farm experience may be what makes your wedding or event standout as striking just the tone you are looking for as we are more than just a wedding venue.
